Victory Christian School

A Ministry of Alameda Bible Church

The VCS Music Program

The music program at VCS has been steadily growing since its start in 1997.  Victory provides general music instruction to kindergarten through sixth grades once a week.  Highlights of the year include two elementary musical programs.  Kindergarten through third grade perform in a Christmas program, and grades four through six participate in an early spring program.  The fourth graders learn to play recorders, while students in fifth grade learn to play the handchimes for the spring program.

Music is also offered to the middle school and high school student.  Students in grades 7-12 can elect to participate in the appropriate choir.  Grades 7-8, “The VCS Disciples,” learn much about singing together as a group as well as tone production, blend, and balance.  They also have the opportunity to play handchimes at both the Christmas and spring concerts.  Students in grades 9-12 can elect to sing in “The Sounds of Victory,” our high school choir.  Students learn a variety of music covering various time periods of history.  A continued emphasis is placed on choral balance, blend, and tone production.  “The Sounds of Victory” participates in the ACSI Rocky Mountain Region Musicale each spring that is held somewhere in the greater New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona area.  They perform for the Christmas and spring concerts as well as in chapels and at other churches on different occasions.  Several small vocal ensembles are also included at these programs.  In the spring of 2009, "The Sounds of Victory" was awarded the state championship for class A-AA schools in New Mexico.  It is our goal in every aspect of the music program at Victory to glorify God in all the music we perform.

A unique aspect of the music program is the private lessons integrated into the school day.  Student in grades 2-12 can choose to take private piano lessons from one of our qualified piano instructors.  Students in grades 9-12 can take private voice lessons and students in grades 5-12 can take private flute or harp lessons.
